Lin Gao (S'08-M'10-SM'16) is an Associate Professor at the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, China. He received Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 2010, and worked as a Postdoct Research Fellow in the Department of Information Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong during 2010-2015. His main research interests are in the interdisciplinary area between game theory and AI, with applications in wireless communications, mobile computing, and networking. He has also co-authored 3 books in prestigious publishers and published more than 100 papers (with 3800 citations in Google Scholar) in leading international journals and conference proceedings of communications and networking, including 2 ESI Highly Cited Papers. He is the co-recipient of 4 Best Paper Awards from WiOpt 2013-2015 and IEEE WCNC 2019. He received the IEEE ComSoc Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award in 2016.
Dr. Gao is currently an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering, an Associate Editor of China Communications, and a Vice Chair of IEEE Technical Committee on Cognitive Networks. He served as a Symposium Chair of IEEE ICC 2020, a TPC Vice Chair of WiOpt 2018, a Publicity & Social Media Chair of GameNets 2017, and Publicity Chair of IEEE Workshop on Smart Data Pricing (SDP 2015). He also served as a Technical Program Committee Member for many leading IEEE conferences (including INFOCOM, ICC, GLOBECOM, etc).
Research Area:
(1) Game Theory and Machine Learning: Network Game Modelling and Analysis; Incentive Mechanism Design and Optimization; Deep Reinforcement Learning and Federated Learning
(2) Mobile Computing and Networking: Edge Computing, Caching, and Networking; Mobile Crowdsensing and Crowd Computing; Cognitive Networking and Network Intelligence
We have openings for PhD students in the interdisciplinary research of mobile computing, machine learning, and game theory. Research topics include but are not limited to edge computing, crowd intelligence, network game theory, reinforcement learning, and federated learning. An applicant with a Master degree needs to have publications in leading IEEE/ACM conferences/journals, and an applicant with a Bachelor degree needs to have a top 10% GPA from a top university, with evidences of strong research potential and leadership capability. An interested candidate should send the CV (including GPA, ranking, and grades of math related courses), transcript, and a brief summary of research interests to Prof. Lin Gao (gaol@hit.edu.cn).
